Refining Guide
Everything you need to push your gear's refine level, from safe guaranteed refines to raw ore shopping.
Refine Master
The Refine Master will refine one equipped item for you using a Refine Ticket — with zero chance of breaking or failing. He can raise the item up to the ticket's guaranteed level, but only if it's currently refined below that level (he won't touch an item that's already caught up).
| NPC | Location | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Refine Master | prontera 165,162 | A matching Refine Ticket |
- Weapon Tickets only work on weapons.
- Armor Tickets work on everything else — armor, shield, garment, footgear, accessories, and headgear.
- Ticket tiers exist from +5 up to +19 (there's no +10 tier). The ticket is consumed the moment it's used, so bring the item you actually want refined.
Ore Merchant
For classic risk-based refining (via the client's Refine window), you'll need Oridecon or Elunium. Buy both straight from the Ore Merchant:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Oridecon | 30,000 Zeny |
| Elunium | 30,000 Zeny |
Location: prt_in 55,61
Ore Alchemist
Once you've stocked up on plain ore, the Ore Alchemist can compress it into stronger versions via a barter counter — no zeny needed, just ore for ore.
| Give | Get |
|---|---|
| 5x Oridecon | 1x Enriched Oridecon |
| 5x Elunium | 1x Enriched Elunium |
| 10x Oridecon | 1x HD Oridecon |
| 10x Elunium | 1x HD Elunium |
| 2x Enriched Oridecon | 1x HD Oridecon |
| 2x Enriched Elunium | 1x HD Elunium |
| 5x Bradium | 1x HD Bradium |
| 5x Carnium | 1x HD Carnium |
Carnium and Bradium themselves come from Dietrich in the Prontera weapon shop (prt_in 63,69): 3x Elunium for 1x Carnium, 3x Oridecon for 1x Bradium. Until September 2026 there was no way at all to get the HD versions of those two, which meant every +11 and beyond attempt on classic gear carried a 20% chance to destroy the item. The Ore Alchemist now closes that gap.
Enriched ore boosts your refine success chance. HD ore protects classic gear from breaking on a failed refine — but note that on the newest gear families (Weapon Lv 5 / Armor Lv 2) HD works differently; see the tables below.

Which Ore for Which Gear
Every weapon has a Weapon Level (1–5) and every armor an Armor Level (1–2) — check the item description. The refine window only accepts the matching ore family:
| Gear | +1 to +10 | +11 to +20 | HD version | Enriched (+1 to +10) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon Lv 1 | Phracon | Bradium | HD Oridecon / HD Bradium | Enriched Oridecon |
| Weapon Lv 2 | Emveretarcon | Bradium | HD Oridecon / HD Bradium | Enriched Oridecon |
| Weapon Lv 3 | Oridecon | Bradium | HD Oridecon / HD Bradium | Enriched Oridecon |
| Weapon Lv 4 | Oridecon | Bradium | HD Oridecon / HD Bradium | Enriched Oridecon |
| Weapon Lv 5 | Etherdeocon | Etel Bradium | HD Etherdeocon (+11–15) / HD Etel Bradium (+16–20) | Enriched Etherdeocon |
| Armor Lv 1 | Elunium | Carnium | HD Elunium / HD Carnium | Enriched Elunium |
| Armor Lv 2 | Ethernium | Etel Carnium | HD Ethernium (+11–15) / HD Etel Carnium (+16–20) | Enriched Ethernium |
So no — you cannot put HD Elunium into an Armor Lv 2 piece. The newest gear (Ep17+ era) refines exclusively with the Ether/Etel family, and all of those ores are obtainable on DewataRO.
Safe Limits & What Happens When You Fail
Risk starts one step above the safe limit:
| Gear | Safe up to |
|---|---|
| Weapon Lv 1 | +7 |
| Weapon Lv 2 | +6 |
| Weapon Lv 3 | +5 |
| Weapon Lv 4 | +4 |
| Weapon Lv 5 | +3 |
| Armor Lv 1 | +4 |
| Armor Lv 2 | +3 |
Classic families (Weapon Lv 1–4, Armor Lv 1):
| Range | Ore | On failure |
|---|---|---|
| up to +10 | Normal / Enriched | 💥 Item breaks |
| up to +10 | HD | Refine −1, item safe |
| +11 to +20 | Normal (Bradium/Carnium) | 80%: refine −3 · 20%: 💥 breaks |
| +11 to +20 | HD | Refine −1, item safe |
New families (Weapon Lv 5, Armor Lv 2) — different rules:
| Range | Ore | On failure |
|---|---|---|
| up to +10 | Normal | Refine −3, never breaks |
| up to +10 | Enriched | Refine −1, never breaks |
| +11 to +20 | Normal and HD | 💥 Item always breaks |
⚠️ Read that last row again: on Lv 5 weapons and Lv 2 armors, HD ore does not protect you above +10 — it only gives a better success rate (10% vs 5%). Past +10, the only protection that exists is a Blacksmith Blessing.
Blacksmith Blessing
Blacksmith Blessing (the little green hammer charm) is checked in the refine window alongside your ore. If the refine fails while Blessings are attached, nothing happens at all: the item survives and keeps its current refine — only the Blessings and the ore are consumed. It works on every gear family, which makes it the only safety net for Lv 5 weapons / Lv 2 armors above +10.
The catch is the price curve — higher attempts demand more Blessings:
| Attempt | Blessings needed |
|---|---|
| +7 → +8 | 1 |
| +8 → +9 | 2 |
| +9 → +10 | 4 |
| +10 → +11 | 7 |
| +11 → +12 | 11 |
| +12 → +13 | 16 |
| +13 → +14 | 22 |
Above +14 Blessings can no longer be used — from there every attempt is a pure gamble. Blacksmith Blessings are obtainable on DewataRO (drops and event rewards, and they trade between players).
The combo that actually works: HD ore + Blessings
For Lv 5 weapons and Lv 2 armors above +10, the winning play is to combine both: the HD ore for the best success rate, the Blessings for the safety net. Worked example, Armor Lv 2 going +11 → +12:
| Ore alone | With 11 Blessings attached |
|---|---|
| Etel Carnium: 8% success, fail = 💥 item gone | HD Ethernium: 15% success, fail = nothing lost except the ore and the 11 Blessings |
At 15% per try you'll need around 7 attempts on average (~77 Blessings) to push through — expensive, but the armor itself is never at risk. The same logic applies to every attempt from +7→+8 up to +13→+14 on any gear family: HD (or the best ore available) for the rate, Blessings for the insurance. Past +14, decide how much you love the item before you click.
Where to Get Refine Tickets
Refine Tickets don't drop or sell for Zeny — the only in-server source right now is the Dewata Vending machine at prontera 145,172, which stocks:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Weapon Refine Ticket (+11) | 50 Dewata Coin |
| Armor Refine Ticket (+11) | 50 Dewata Coin |
See Dewata Coin for how to earn Dewata Coin, and Coin Vending Machines for the machine's full catalog.
Grade Enhancement
Refining and grading are separate systems — grading adds a D/C/B/A bonus on top of your refine, and it is handled by a different NPC. ⚠️ Its cheap payment option destroys the item on failure. See Grade Enhancement.
