Anti-Bot Check (Captcha)
DewataRO does not allow botting or automation (see Rules of Conduct, rule 1). To enforce that without bothering everyone, the server watches how characters play and can ask a suspicious character to prove a human is at the keyboard. This page explains what that looks like so it never surprises you.
What happens
- A small window opens in the middle of your screen with a picture of five letters or digits, a text box, and a 60-second timer.
- Your character is frozen and cannot be hurt while the window is open. Monsters cannot touch you.
- Type the characters you see (upper or lower case both work) and press Enter or the confirm button.
- Correct answer: the window closes, you get a 10-minute Blessing and Increase Agility as a thank-you, and you will not be asked again for at least 24 hours.
What counts as failing
- Three wrong answers.
- Letting the 60-second timer run out three times.
- Logging out, closing the tab, or disconnecting while the window is open.
A failed check disconnects you and flags the character for a GM to look at. It does not ban you by itself. A GM reviews the flag together with the play record, and bans follow the normal ladder in the Rules of Conduct. If you failed because your connection dropped, just log back in; a GM can see that from the record.
Who gets asked
Only characters whose play pattern looks automated for a long stretch, and only when they are not in the middle of a fight, a trade, an NPC dialog, a shop, an instance, or a PvP / WoE map. Normal play, including long farming sessions, does not trigger it. A GM can also run the check manually on a character they are reviewing.
Good to know
- Every check draws a brand-new picture, so no two checks look alike. If it does not appear, wait a few seconds; on a very old browser, refresh the page after the check and report it on Discord.
- Pressing Enter sends your answer. A wrong answer clears the box so you can type again; you have three tries.
- Nobody from staff will ever ask for your password, inside or outside a captcha. The check never asks for anything but the characters in the picture.
- Autotrade vendors are never asked.
